I know. Its like when I saw the video of those British soldiers kicking and beating those kids because they had thrown rocks. What is our world coming to. Surely Mobsie you must see this is not solely an American issue, right? I mean all across the world there are stories, daily, about the abuse of power by the police and military. Think globally Mobsie and not locally. If you think that this is an American issue only, you're quite mistaken. If you want to effect real change in this world, for the betterment of this world, then you, and all of us, need to move past the idea of national boundaries or identities. In other words, you're obviously upset about this, but have you looked inward to your own country? Are you as equally angered by the opressive and barbaric abuses carried out by the governments of China, or in Sudan, or in Russia?
If you really are concerned about this issue, I'd like to hear your views on a global scale, as opposed to an American one. Don't you think you should address these types of issues without care for what nation is responsible?
First the british soldiers didnt open fire on them. Secondly, all these other countries dont turn around and say they are doing it for the good of us all. Third this is an american site, full of american people that need to be aware of what their great and good country actually is. If we are to agree on an issue TomSmith then we must agree that america is just as barbaric and inept as all the others. But it's the blindness of most americans that galls me. Sure british people can be just as blinded by patriotism, But they make me sick to my stomach too. If this were a chinese site then I would be using chinese stories against them. But it isnt. But then nationalism isnt the same in china, nor russia, nor pretty much anywhere else.
I mean if we look at places like Bosnia, in modern day Europe, the arocities that were carried out to ethnically cleanse the nation is mind boggeling. It was such a bad situation, and still is, that NATO IFOR remains there. The point is, your ballot asks the question "What is wrong with Americans." What is wrong with the English, or the Russians, or the Chinese, or the Bosnians, or the Sudanese, or the North Koreans for that matter.
Instead of making a broad-sweeping generalization about Americans, you maybe should think that it is governments that are responsible, not the average person. If you want to lump the people in all together, are you prepared to answer the question "What is wrong with the English?" Or is there a statute of limitations when it comes to a nations acts of atrocities, intentionall or not?
I disagree with you Mobsie. Its your motives I question and not the validity of the story. Sorry, but I just don't think you would do, as you say, on any other sites. I think you have an Axe to grind. Anyway, one day we'll all face judgement of some sort, you, me, all of us.
The yugoslav situation has been going since the first world war. Which implies that its all been a long line of european stupidity.

It's sickening to even thing that such a thing happened. Equally awful things happened to the U.S. forces in 'Nam and in WWII. I've heard stories that would chill your blood. We train our troops to be professional soldiers, but we forget that they're also scared kids who have been shot at almost daily. This was bound to happen.

You're not only a cretin, but, worse yet, a cretin with amnesia, if you make statements of the kind in response to those replies. It's not a matter of "moral equivalency," but a matter of selectively ignoring 4000 years of recorded human history (with the assumption that there's been some "pure" country or tribe somewhere that didn't behave the same given the opportunity), and, if you're English, your own rather substantial record of colonialism and postcolonial meddling in other nations' affairs. ...And, yes, I use English intentionally as an adjective to describe the separate nation-state within the United Kingdom, as they've the bulk of this historical baggage.
Irony lost. American idealism is the issue here. You claim to represent freedom and justice. England never did this and neither has any other country. America is the foremost superpower (as you all keep pointing out) so why is incapable of sticking to its own absurd claims.
