[+] ballot by oh_what_a_relief

The catholic church as well as other groups have said abstinence is the best way to stop sexually transmitted diseases around the world .

Yeah, I'll agree not having sex would stop sexually transmitted diseases , but is it a realistic remedy to this huge problem?

yes
no
abstinence might work for some but not all
abstinence for some , protective sex for others
No sex for you
vibrators for all
Talk to the ha... the endorphins!

COMMENTS:
We could cure the common cold if we all stop breathing. This may be a fact as well but it is far from realistic. I have no problem with offering moral advice but if you don’t allow people to take the proper precautions then you are gambling with their lives.

Not as long as kids have hormones. The only reason I was abstinent until I was nineteen is because I couldn't get a woman to look at me without laughing.

Abstinence programs (promoted by some churches) show absolutely no effect in reducing sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, it is slightly higher.

The reality is ... it ain't gonna happen.

People can talk about 'what ifs' and 'moral values' all they want, but the reality is -- abstinence is a hope, not a plan.

Did you see, just yesterday (CNN.com)
how a detective was lecturing kids in middle school
about the dangers of "cheese" heroin
and he mentioned that AMERICA is Numero Uno
when it comes to drug use/abuse?
- The kids CHEERED!

Bet he wasn't expecting THAT response!

Yes... like someone said, Abstinence programs are right up there with the *totally* successful war on drugs! Isn't it a riot?
Trying to control people via thoroughly counter-intuitive means
like Fear, Guilt, Abstinence(ignore thy urges) ?
