RFIDs are Radio Frequency ID chips that a very small amount of stored information that can be transmitted to a scanner. Pet chips, for example, are RFIDs that store an ID number under the skin of your pet that can be linked to a database with your ownership information. RFIDs are frequently used in the retail industry, to replace UPC or bar codes, and track shipping containers, livestock, etc. Key cards and Smart cards often use RFID technology. The concern is that they are becoming more and more common, and consumers don't know where they are. The cheaper ones have little or no security, allowing anyone to scan the information they contain, and could utimately lead to identity theft and tracking of personal information. RFIDs can be and sometimes have already been imbedded in car tires, library cards, money, passports, student ID cards, and could be used to track movements, reading habits, cash transactions, etc.

So, do you know where your RFIDs are, and what they are saying about you?
