DO YOU THINK THE CURRENT CLIMATE OF HATRED TOWARD LIBERALS COMES FROM FLAGRANT IGNORANCE?

Somehow or another America has become a very polarized nation and I think this is because of many misconceptions people have toward liberals (I feel comfortable saying that this isn’t necessarily an equally shared misunderstanding, i.e. liberals misunderstand conservatives equally as much as conservatives misunderstand liberals, because the word liberal seems to have become a dismissive label if not an outright dirty word by many conservatives.) This is probably due to the large swell of conservative antagonists in the public forum that are only to willing to spout misconceptions and lies like, “liberals love abortions.” Only an insane person would love the idea of women having abortions vicariously without any concern for human life. The truth is that most liberals think that abortion should be a last resort that should not be legislated against. Of course they also say things like “liberals took prayer out of public schools.” This isn’t true in the slightest. Organized prayer is no longer allowed (i.e. prayer organized by schoolteachers or other government employees) because it could allow our tax dollars to be used to endorse a favored religion or it could make it possible to discriminate against students that do not follow a popular religion or any religion at all. “Liberals are soft on crime.” This line is exactly the type of thing you hear from cowardly people. Overall liberals respect due process and the Fifth Amendment they are the cornerstones of our civilized nation. You don’t judge a nation by how well they treat the rich people; anyone can treat an affluent person well. It’s having compassion for the downtrodden and the respect of everyone’s rights that makes a well respected nation.
I could go on for quite a long time about this but for now I will leave it to you. Do you think the current climate of hatred toward liberals comes from flagrant ignorance?

COMMENTS:
And flagrant *willingness* to *be* ignorant. Everyone out there has access to the same well of information, and the ability, in one form or another, to go find that information. Too many people are *sheeple*, willing to accept what someone tells them without question. To those, I ask, "Would you kindly send me twenty bucks?"

Im not a conservative or a liberal, and I find both of those labels confined and limiting, and dont quite understand why people insist on attaching such inhibitng propoganda to themselves.

Having said that, I find that people who define themselves as "liberals" are normally brainwashed sheep spouting politically correct propoganda, unable to form any coherent, logical argument, and always always always resorting to ad hominem attacks. Take Barbara baby cakes, Cranky, and to some degree Steelhamster for example.

I dont have much more respect for "Republicans", as they too are often set in their ways and dogmatically refuse to budge even an inch from the party line, but in my experience they seem the more willing to engage in debate on the areas that actually matter, that liberals dont dare express an original opinion on (race, religion etc)

Quit whining. People only bash liberals because liberals let them. Unless my fellow liberals speak up it will continue to happen.

Liberals have no coherent message unlike the FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson days. You can't defend something if you don't know what it is.

I think most people respect a real liberal who isn't afraid to say what they believe in. This type of person is rare though.

Do I think this comes from ignorance? No. It comes from conservatives knowing how to push the buttons of liberals and the average Joe six pack. Leftists as opposed to liberal are the ones that are bashed more. Cynthia McKinney would be an example of this. Out of the mainstream. Blame American first. Refuse to believe that American values are superior to most of what the rest of the world has... like dictatorships, etc... The average person, conservative and many liberals consider this person to be ignorant.

It would be amusing to watch liberals frantically squirming their way out of a logical argument concerning any taboo issue such as race, when it isnt going their way, if it wasnt so utterly pathetic

"People only bash liberals because liberals let them."

People really don't have a choice in getting bashed. If I want to bash you right now, Fiddle, it wouldn't be because you "let" me.

This climate was created by leftists claiming to be liberals.

You miscategorized this ballot, this should have been put in the JOKE section.

You are truly the ultimate definition of a hypoctrite, Mr. Gaylord. With one hand you make conservative bashing ballots and comments continuously and on the other hand you play the martyr card as though conservatives are out to get YOU.

I think you should look at what goes on here at bestandworst and you'll see a pretty good indication of the truth. Conservative users here are bashed on a continual basis for being ignorant, uneducated, 'rednecks', trailer trash, etc, even by the sites owner/founder.

Wake up and smell what you are shoveling.

Also, nice use of an image that has NOTHING to do with the ballot. Another indicator of your true intentions. The 5th amendment quote was a nice touch too, you mean how people who do believe in God are continually having their rights taken away by broader and broader interpretations of "seperation of church and state", because I highly doubt, that even with your Jesus image you so eloquently posted with your ballot, you have any care in the world for a person's right to believe in religion and the historical significance of religion that this country was built upon. You say nothing about the shit that is currently on television yet you'll find every problem with *GASP* God forbid, the 10 commandments being in a public place. I don't know if this is funny or sad, it's truly a complex combination of both.

The real problem is that there is always a line drawn in the sand.

I would class my self as a socialist, and this means so many things depending on which country you reside. In the UK, it means someone who believes that those who do thelabour should benefit from its rewards and not the other way round.

In the US it seems a socialist is a hop and a skip away from satanism.

In the UK conservatism is a more 'liberal' conservatism and is always aware that the NHS and the welfare state is sacrasanct.

In the US consevatism is seen as cruel, self serving and only benefiting the few.

I saw my name mentioned in another comment, and if I am seen in that light, I cannot really change the way people feel.

However, to say that the left are 'brainwashed' is a bit rich, it has been the left that has continually been against the folly in Iraq and again was proven right.

The backpeddalling is quite amusing, but not as amusing as the changes in reasons for going in.

So hate me if you will, but we will always be here, lest the right have it all their own way and push the UK and the UK towards a future that is at best unseemly.
