Maybe she wouldn't care. The Alamo is so weirdly situated in San Antonio. It's like, here's a building, here's a street corner, here's the Alamo, and here's a mall across another street. It doesn't stand out like one would expect a national monument to do.

Yeah, it's ashame to see all the crap and stuff around it. Before it was bought by the DRT, nobody really cared about it's future or historical value though and businesses sprang up all over the place. The Alamo (and some of the barracks surrounding it) were even used as a warehouse and a police department at one time.
