do you think the media just scared people about the bird flu and it was just the story of the hour?

or

do you think that it is a pretty big threat stuff overseas could come over here real easily with so many people coming and going

it was the story of the hour
it is a threat that could really kill tons of people
Does the planet need 2.6 billion less people???

COMMENTS:
It can become a very real threat. The last Avian-based flu epidemic was in 1918. That killed millions. The world is also long overdue for a major flu epidemic. There are a couple of things that are particularly scary about the bird flu. It is systemic not just respiratory based. This means that unlike other flu viruses it can and does survive in the bloodstream. This means it can go to any organ of the body including the brain. This makes it far more deadly and far more difficult to treat. The avian flu can literally attack and shut down the whole body which is why it is the mortality rate is 50-70%. If (more like when) it mutates and is able to easily spread among humans, world-wide transmission of the virus will occur very quickly. Epidemiologists and other public health officials are deeply concerned about the avian flu (H5N1). Those who dismiss the threat aren't really in the know about it.

I can provide people with some links for more info on the avian flu if people want.

Story of the hour i know alot of people died from this threat in the past but nothing has come of it.

story of the hour, Maybe.
BUT, the reason this should get attention is that viruses like this are evolving, something as gross as Black Plague could be out there waiting (to rot our hearts :) And the cities grow, and the people move around..

See though, I don't watch the news much... I don't trust my government that could give a SHIT LESS how many ppl die here, overseas or otherwise day to day. So I stock up (water, ect) because something might happen someday... I would rather be prepared and ready to leave out of the city or whatever...rather than be stuck, sniviling and actually thinking that someone cares about me or my families wellfare.

***WAKE UP AMERICANS!!! The best thing is to be "prepared" just in case. Believe me, I am NOT just talking about the brid flu either, there is biological warefare, and all kinds of fun stuff that could get into the water supply... Maybe even by the so-called politicians that we trust : /
