Is the line between freedom and deviance too thin to allow unlimited freedom to continue to push the limits of what would be considered ‘common decency’? Or is the idea of ‘common decency’ unlimited and synonymous with freedom itself? Certainly sex with children, sex with animals, etc, would be within the realm of deviant behavior that most would consider illegal, but where does one draw the line between what is allowed and what is illegal, when each person’s idea of freedom would be different? How does an organization such as the ACLU define what they will or will not defend?

COMMENTS:
Strictly speaking, there's no such thing as Unlimited Freedom. In fact, much of what we perceive as Freedom is an illusion because we've absorbed so many social 'norms.' Is "Freedom to act as you're expected to act" really freedom?

It's a tough- to- define line, IMO. Too many of us don't have the compassion and personal development to responsibly handle 'unlimited freedom.'

As long as there are no set lines, save those society implies, there'll be deeper and more egregious tests of those "lines".
