I don't think so, didn't teh West 'cause a lot of the problems there?

Just one where the dream of capitalism has gone terribly askew and awry. Those in power want everything they see at the same time, and the have-nots are caught smack in the middle.
Perhaps if the "civilized" west hadn't colonized it, installed brutal dictators, enslaved it, killed its original culture then none of this would've occured. Prior to colonization, Africa was one of the most powerful, economically stable continents in the world. The only problem is that their military wasn't as advanced as western militaries and they lost control.
Hey sport, ever been to Morocco or Egypt?
Were all from Africa. I guess that makes us all products of the place. Do you consider yourself a loser aplmac? I do, when I think of the billions of (insert currency here) that get squandered every day rather than try and fix what is basically humanities failings. So the simple answer is no. We are all lessened by this.
Mea culpa. boo hoo hoo!
You’re forgetting Antarctica. You know, the frozen wasteland to the south only inhabited by penguins and scientists, slowly being depleted by a large gap in the ozone layer.
It is a pretty shitty continent. Show of hands, anyone want to live there permanently if given the choice between the other 5 inhabited continents?
Herzog, he's saying that because he doesn't have any sympathy for the people who live there. But you do, right? Especially since we're the cause of most of their problems?

aya: we aren't the cause of most of their problems. AIDS, occurs naturally, spread by stupidity and ignorance. We do our best to combat their superstition, but they still feel with this deadly STD running rampant that it's a good idea to screw everything that moves and that condoms are evil white magic. So is it our fault there's an epidemic? Is it our fault that they are carrying out ethnic genocide that was going on prior to colonization (look at ethiopia, they were never a colony and they're hardly a model for success). Is it our fault they're run by tribal kleptocrats? Or that they decided the best way to fight a famine was to drive out or kill all the white farmers? Is it our fault that their leaders take all the aid we give them and either keep it for themselves or use it to reward their supporters and punish their opponents? Is it our fault that muslim invaders are currently killing everything in their path in the Sudan and elsewhere? Hardly. Africa has many faults, you can't blame the west for all of them.
I finally get HERZOG. He's idiotic on purpose. He's like Colbert on the Daily show--purposely idotic to make a point. Good job Herzog!
Ostensibly, Africa is where humankind evolved first. Apparently, numbers of these first men moved out and found new territory -- and the ones that stayed behind didn't fare as well as the ones who left. Why? Who knows? Perhaps it was the climate, less motivation, or... well, we don't know. Africa has the population and resources to be much, much more than they are today. Perhaps they will get it together. As for labeling Africa the "loser continent," I think that we should wait a few thousand years before we apply labels.
Herzog, we are not responsible for all of Africa's ills, but we are responsible for a lot of them. Why do we keep supporting African dictators; the diamond troubles in Sierra Leone; Talisman Inc. funding the regime in Sudan. So yeah, we do bear some responsibility.

I don't know, boss.
Received karma rating of : -1 from Applerod For the Ballot comment#1028404.php @ Bestandworst.com. - This comment is so far out that I can't believe anyone who isn't racist and/or highly prejudiced--even if it is only temporary or passing--would honestly and sincerely agree with these things. P.S. This is not personal; you could be anybody
It appears that it is not ok to list out historical facts if they happen to make non-whites look bad.
You had to do it, didn't you. You had to make me pull out that old favorite internet chestnut known as the "quotation gambit." My rating might not make sense if there's no context. So here is the context for my rating of the comment: "AIDS, occurs naturally, spread by stupidity and ignorance. Hardly. Africa has many faults, you can't blame the west for all of them." - That last statement is reasonable, unlike virtually everything preceding it. Let's get personal Herzog. Just you and me now, since we know each other so well. Accept responsibility for the statement instead of always blaming someone else. Now what do you think about that, smart guy? Huh, Texas two-step?? Bring on the quotation gambit; I can't get enough of it.
If I have failed, it is because I have been unable to convince you about how petty this manner of going about things is.
^troll.
herzog- "Is it our fault that they are carrying out ethnic genocide that was going on prior to colonization (look at ethiopia, they were never a colony and they're hardly a model for success)." - Well it kind of is Europe's fault that most of the current African nation-states do no have borders divide certain groups. When they were turned into colonies, no consideration was given to demographics. Nation-states were formed not on that basis, but rather on the basis of 'this land used to be owned by France, and that over there owned by Britain, etc.' So it is Europe's fault that many existing nation-states in Africa have divided groups. As for the reaction to this? It would be unfair to say that the civil wars are Europe's fault (even though they were the ones that invented nation's wihout clear demographic logic), because the Africans could have reacted to this somehow differently than with violence.
And the West does indeed make things difficult for Africa, because the West has such high levels of tariffs and protectionism, which affects negatively Africa's ability to compete economically on a global scale.
Is the race over?!

the first world exploited (and still exploit) the huge natural resources of Africa. To call it 'the loser continent' is entirely uncharitable and ignores the fact that Africa's wealth now sits in the 1st world! It's my favourite continent by miles, and I'd certainly not call it 'the loser continent'.
I am so sick of the excuses that westerners caused the problems in Africa. The African Union has had 50 years to redraw the map of the African continent on tribal lines. The first resolution passed by the African Union was to keep the map the same as the Europeans had drawn it so you can stop blaming whitey. Your leaders who you support like the map just fine. Before white explorers visited Africa slavery existed and was a booming trade. It is still a booming trade today. We didnt invent slavery of war nor did we introduce it to the African continent. We did not invent genocidal tribalism. It existed well before the first settlers arrived as well. Europe is guilty of taking advantage of the constant state of war that existed between tribes and we certainly exploited the African continent and people but we are only partly responsible for the problems both past and present. African states have had decades to put their houses in order. Its always the same lame excuses. Its like a loser who blames his parents for his lack of confidence. If African states had spent less time grabbing land and butchering civilians and more time building your economies up you wouldnt be in the shit you are in now. Africa is awash with natural resources but do you work with what you have? No, you sit on your arses and plot revenge for past trangressions.
Oh yeah and another thing PLEASE learn to keep your dicks in your pants before you all die of AIDS.
Humanity began in Africa. It was the home of Maya and Egyptian culture. Far from being losers!

Absolutely. If white people hadn't come to South Africa and made something of it, Africa would be the all time loser continent.
I agree with SEARCHLIGHT. The African wallow in Tribilism and ignorace and are the cause of their own problems. NOT THE EUROPEANS OR WHITE MAN!

Look beyond the "white" expectations. See what really matters. Give what really matters a chance and life will be better for all of us,,,,I am a pagan and white and would love a chance to live there! The history, the vast space, the wonder of life spread as far as the eye can see...BUT..I want weapons to defend myself with...AK47s?...I am a realist...lol
Voted : It depends on your definition of "loser"
I would not say loser just unfortunate. id like to go on a safari there. imagine how hot it would be there!
If I didn't know better I'd think I was at a klan meeting. Sheesh
Duh.. In what respect has it ever "won"? Unless you mean as relates to destroying themselve through genocide, corruption, and sexual immorality?
Yeah, blame colonialism for advancing the continent 15000 years. Spears anyone?
