COMMENTS:
Profiling = detail... without detail, problems tend to perpetuate and create hurdles guised as civil rights.

Duke is attempting to make a connection between psychological profiling and the racial discrimination that neo-cons support against blacks and Muslims. The connection is spurious, and illuminates the prejudice from which most neo-cons base their belief system.
Serial criminal profiling is a little more complicated than that. The basic things an investigator looks at are: 1. Was there a plan (and/or fantasy) in place before the act? What triggers the murderer to act on some days and not others? 2. What was the method used and manner of death? What type of victim or victims did the murderer select? What was the method and manner of murder: shooting, stabbing, strangulation or something else? 3. Body disposal: Did the murder and body disposal take place all at one scene, or multiple scenes? 4. Post-offense behavior: Is the murderer trying to inject himself into the investigation by reacting to media reports or contacting investigators? (wiki et. al.) They compare these actions to known offenders (those they have profiled in depth in prison) to come up with a "picture" of what the person will most likely be like. Profiling only based on appearance may have limited effect. If terrorists know the physical profile, they just get someone with a different physical profile to carry out the attack. Psychological and behavioral profiling can be more effective. This is used by some countries in airport security. Actions are observed carefully, those acting somewhat suspiciously or unusually in some way are questioned further.
my Father was profiled and stopped and asked questions becuase he looks middle eastern although he is of english, hispanic and American Indian orgin. he was not offended at all. although what concerns him are the nut cases that attack people just because they appear to be a certain race. but if it is a law inforcement or military situation we (that is my family and I) understand. I am saying this knowing that my brother who was beaten up just last week because he looks middle eastern. he was beaten up by someone else besides law enforcement. there is a difference between Profiling for a particular need and then Profiling for hatred sake. if it is done because of hate for a particular race then they need to be punished by the Law. including if it is a law enforment agency.
Profiling is, at best, an inexact science, no matter what the experts may tell you.
Pardon me. Too early with the "Enter". There's no way for one to know the will of the human mind.
Hey truth sorry but I have to partly disagree I have had family members and good friends in Law enforcement and you would be totally amazed how close and accurate they come to knowing what type of person committed the crime. I have had the oppertunity to talk to them before and after they found the suspect and it is scarry how accurate they pegged the guy. so you are right they can't totally know the will of the human mind but they can come pretty cottonpicken close.
Why not profile white males?Of course the FBI does (and reasonably so) but there is no outcry over this,is there...?
profiling can be useful, but you can only profile someone based on things they control, choices they've made. anything else would make as much sense as saying somebody's more likely to be violent because he was born with no arms. culture's a different thing from race, and can play a part in a prson's choices, but not significant enough to profile on.
Voted : I support profiling for white men, but no one else, but I'm not a racist/hypocrite because . . .
...white men are the majority in our population. You can't really profile based on race when most people are that race.
