COMMENTS:
without RAF 1940, without Royal Navy in Atlantic for duration of war, without Britain itself remaining free, America cannot defeat Germany. I would not suggest that Britain could defeat Germany all by herself, American support, and of course Russian, was overwhelmingly needed in every aspect, but I do not believe Britain would have suffered a successful invasion, at least not in the early 40's.
I don't understand the question. Are you asking what would the USA have done if Germany had taken over Europe and Asia? Eg. Would the USA have made some kind of deal with Germany and given up trying to liberate Europe in order to save themselves? Well yes I think they probably would, but who could blame them if they did.
I dont think britain would have been taken to be honest Chomsky. The question is jd_30, Given the state of affairs if germany had won. America would not be in the position it is now. So did you save yourselves or was it a selfless act that "saved our motherf&cking butts"?
Oh ok. (I'm from the UK btw). Well no I don't think it was a selfless act otherwise it wouldn't have taken pearl harbor to bring them into the war. I think it was politically motivated like any government decision. The USA got involved because the American public wanted revenge. If the american people didn't have the stomach for war they'd have probably stayed out of it. So basically my answer is that it was a combination of factors, some of which were selfless, some selfish.
Good point. America didn't do it for Europe, it did it for America. If there was no chance of Germany expanding outside of Europe, the chances are, the US wouldn't have even joined the war.
The USA got involved because they were attacked by the japs, and the Germans declared war on them. The USA did not make a decision to come to Europes aid out of some moral cause, they did it because it was thrust upon them.
