IS IT TRUE THAT YOUR YOUTH IS THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE?

[+] serious ballot by Mithrandir
created Tue Jun 13, 06

When I was a kid, I was told I was living the best years of my life. But I think it is only getting better. Now that I've escaped my family and can make my own decisions, I feel a lot happier. I make mistakes, but they're easier to live with when they're my own. And I can always change my mind about things, which I recently found is very liberating.

What about you? When is/was/will be the happiest time of your life?

Yes, happiness belongs only to the young
Only children are naive enough to be happy
No, my life is getting better all the time
Parenthood has made the happiest
Grandparenthood has made me the happiest
Swinging singlehood has made me the happiest
Life's a bitch and then you die
It's all downhill from here
Now is the time I am the happiest
I don't Know Yet
Life is what you make it
Depends on the person

COMMENTS:
I don't know. How would you know unless you're old?

I like right now, but I also can't wait to be over 18 so I can do what I want. Can you do what you want when you're older than 18? What can you do? You can't drink until you're 20, but you can vote when you're 18 and I guess other stuff to.

I'm not sure yet if this is the best time of my life. Its the funnest time. I guess when I was around 10 or 11 was good too because then you can act all goofy and everyone explains it away like "Oh, he's only 10, let him have fun." Now you get a look if you act a certain way because you're not 10 anymore, but you're also not 18 yet. How old are you Mithrander?

Oh. I thought you were in your 50's or something. Isn't it a little soon to be wondering if these are the best times of your life? So, are you going to answer my questions? Or are you not wise and old enough yet? IC_pimp

When you are young, you feel unbreakeble. Like Patch said, its hard to know how it will feel to be older than you are. Still, I'm not looking forward to being old, lets hope I avoid senility in this life... I'm 18 btw

Life is what you make of it, at any age... My childhood was great, when I look back... but so were my 20's...

i don't think i would really want to go back to my teens again. people say - oh if i were only younger and knew then what i know now.... but the fact is we didn't and knowledge and experience are some of the rewards of getting older. I was happy at times when i was younger and i was unhappy at times. It is the same now. I don't think i could say i was more or less happy at any given time simply because of my age though. and some of the richest and happiest moments of my life have been recently. Life is a path and it takes you where you want to go if you let it.

In my case, I certainly got a lot more freedom once I went to university, away from my family. I got to make my own decisions, more so because I paid my own tuition. And the fun gets better as you get older, or at least in my experience so far, in comparison to my teen years.

But the reason I made the ballot is because I read an article that says that generally speaking people get happier as they get older. Up to the mid seventies, when failing health starts to drag people down.

Not sure. But so far the best time for me was my years at the end of school and University. 17 - 22.

As soon as you start fulltime work, the years speed by, which is really depressing.
