COMMENTS:
A GREAT President, I'd say... and a very flawed human, like the rest of us.
^ I'm going by all that I've read and watched about his life and political ideals. Who knows what he'd have achieved if he'd been allowed to live long enough.
Yep!
no but he was by far most photogenic and so was his wife.

Why do you think it was the worst of times, LCD? Just curious. I'd have loved to have been alive during his short tenure. He brought such hope and so many positive changes to the whole world before he was so brutally cut down, so I'm wondering why you feel the way you do?
Too bad we'll never know. Probably would have been. Made us aware of civil rights, probably wouldn't have gone so horribly wrong in Vietnam.
That's the feelings I got from my family zig. Hope
No, he's only remembered fondly because of his assassination.
zig, I wouldn't call it the WORST (that was only option available) but I think we all see his presidency though a rose colored glasses, because he was assassinated..

No. He was unreasonable in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He dragged the US closer into a useless and unnecessary war in Vietnam. He began the process of an American obsession with Israel. Sorry, my focus is on foreign policy. I don't know that much on internal.
Interesting points, Socrates. His foreign policy left quite a bit to be desired, I agree, but didn't he also avert a major disaster by blowing the whistle on the nefarious Operation Northwoods, a false-flag operation designed by the CIA which would have plunged the nation into even deeper crisis? LCD: You may be right. The fact that he was assassinated at the height of his popularity may have a lot to do with why he is still almost hero-worshipped to this day - an American iconoclast in brilliant technicolor. But, quite apart from anything else, I salute him and his brother for the great strides they made in the civil rights movement, and for injecting a new degree of hope in the US and throughout the world. Shame it was all so short-lived.
I was in the service during his presidency and was proud to have him as Commander-In-Chief. He took a tough stand in Cuba, also. Never did see him stand on the flight deck of a carrier and say "mission accomplished" when he didn't have a clue what he was talking about either. He had a good military background and sound politics. Even if you don't like the Kennedys, you can't deny that.
He did support civil rights, in spite of interference from Hoover. But the Bay of Pigs was a mess.
He founded the Peace Corps. Gotta give him that. Otherwise, Kennedy made some serious mistakes that could've led to nuclear war. He is one of our most overrated Presidents, and the only reason people are fascinated by him is because of the controversy surrounding his assassination. We need a life, America.
Like Marilyn Manson sang in one of his songs, "If Jack was a Baptist, we'd drink wine from his head." He was a good president, as presidents go. Not the best, not the worst. But too many give him God-like status.
We didn't have enough time to know whether he would have been a good president. Lyndon Johnson was the architect of the Civil Rights Act, which would have been JFK's biggest proposal, but from what I read, he couldn't have gotten it passed. LBJ on the other hand was a mover and shaker, although seriously flawed.
i think that he was a good man, he really knew how to dance to the cats pajamas
Voted : Yes, it was the best of times
He was an all around GREAT President of all.
He didn't have the time to prove himself, but was aware of civil rights and was close to pulling out of Nam before he was killed. So, who knows how different history could have been if he wasn't killed.
Voted : Mixed
Not really...he was revered becasue of idealism. No substance really. Economically he was more conservative than liberal...so I have to give him a nod there.
close to pulling out of 'nam? Uhm, he sent more troops INTO nam like the very week he was assassinated, please study up on that before you assume such foolishness. It's interesting how many ignorant people actually want to blame Nixon for Vietnam, which is perposterous, considering that JFK basically sunk us into that mess to begin with than was tragically vindicated thru his own assassination. Unfortunate in more ways than just his own demise, he was washed clean by the whole event.
Voted : How would I know?
He died 17 years before I was born...
