CANADIAN SOLDIERS

[+] ballot by USRocks

Is it just me or do the Canadian soldiers in this picture in Iraq look exactly like Americans. The only way you can tell them apart is from the Canadian flag on their shoulders. I don't see one piece of gear on them that isn't American. Even the style of thier camo is new and developed in the US. Does Canada have any difference from it's southern neighbor because these differences seem to be getting smaller to me all the time.

Canadian aren't as different from Americans as they pretend to be
There is much difference
Gear is the same, mission is the same, method is vastly different
^Canadian soldiers always have same gear no matter the mission
Yes, American soldiers do look like Canadian soldiers.
Americans are trained better
Americans should thank us

Americans make good gear, and your dollar is so weak right now how can we resist?

Those moustaches give them away immediately...
by um__yeah on Sun Jun 25, 06 7:39am [+]

umm the canadian dollar is worth less than the American dollar. A canadian dollar is worth about 80 American cents.
by USRocks on Sun Jun 25, 06 7:51am [+]

1. Canada voted not to go to Iraq until they were given evidence that Iraq had WMD(not just reassurances)
2. This is a picture of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan.
3 The Canadian dollar is worth roughly 90 cent US.
by ClosetIguana on Sun Jun 25, 06 8:21am [+]

nope I looked it up 80 cents on currency converter. Besides different places will tell you different things so it is hard to tell. What difference does it make where the picture comes from thats not the point.
by USRocks on Sun Jun 25, 06 8:49am [+]

"Is it just me or do the Canadian soldiers in this picture in IRAQ..."

I missed that one Iguana. It's pointless argueing with someone so ignorant isn't it?
by um__yeah on Sun Jun 25, 06 8:58am [+]

yeah if you call me ignorant even though you have no idea who I am or where I come from I have the right to call you an asshole.

Canada has got a military??
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Jun 25, 06 9:16am [+]

USRocks

Look again.
It's hasn't been at 80 cent in over a year and a half.

InternalColonel

"Canada has got a military??"

I guess the ballot is doing a lot of educating, eh?
by ClosetIguana on Sun Jun 25, 06 12:46pm [+]

Personally, the only way I can tell a Canadian from an American is to ask both parties to say the word "about". And that doesn't always work.
by Truthseeker013 on Sun Jun 25, 06 2:06pm [+]

You posted a ballot about Canadian soldiers in Iraq. I think I have the right to call you ignorant. Did the U.S. invade the Falklands? Did the U.K. fight in Vietnam? Comeon man, do some fucking research before you start posting these lame ass ballots just to get a rise from people.
by um__yeah on Sun Jun 25, 06 2:58pm [+]

Soldiers around the globe look similar. I saw a photo of Israeli troops being carried into battle riding on tanks, and if you didn't know who they were, you'd easily think they could have been Rommel's Afrika Corps.
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Jun 25, 06 3:58pm [+]

shows what you know. the camo pattern is called cadpat, it's a canadian design. the american digital camo, marpat, is actually a copy. the rifle, the c7a1, is also a canadian design, which outperforms both the british l85a1 and the american m16a2. the helmet is different as well, doesn't stiuck out over the eyes as much.
by neothe1 on Sun Jun 25, 06 4:32pm [+]

"Personally, the only way I can tell a Canadian from an American is to ask both parties to say the word "about". And that doesn't always work."

of course not, that'd only identify an alberta farmer
by neothe1 on Sun Jun 25, 06 4:43pm [+]

and now that i look closer,USRocks, um__yeah is right, you said iraq, not afghanistan
by neothe1 on Sun Jun 25, 06 4:45pm [+]

Actually...to flog a dead horse into what is now probably a frothy paste...MARPAT was developed with the help of the Department of Defence (Canada) after the U.S. defense Dept showed keen interest in the technology, so CADPAT technology was shared with the U.S.; they (U.S.) then tweaked the actual disruptive pattern for their own use, as the technology was owned by the Canadian government.
by um__yeah on Sun Jun 25, 06 5:35pm [+]

i know I said Afganistan..so shoot me damnit. Both conflicts fall under the same command centcom. The question was geared towards the soldiers not the population so shutup already. O and the new U.S. helmets do not "stick out over the eyes" they look exactly like that. yes some of their equipment is different I never said Canada had a fully identical military. I will admit I was wrong about the camo. But it doesn't change the overall point. The "c7a1" is not a canadian design. It is almost an exact copy of the American rifle. the m16 was disigned to be able to snap on new features which is simply what the canadians did. I just don't get where they think they have the right to rename it.
by USRocks on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:04pm [+]

well mostly wrong as proven by um_yeah
by USRocks on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:06pm [+]

Are we altogether sure that it's not Canada in Iraq, pretending to be the USA? That could be the next conspiracy ballot!
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:08pm [+]

O not to comment 3 times in a row but i take back when i called um_yeah an asshole..but when people call me ignorant I get pissed.
by USRocks on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:13pm [+]

^ Yeah, but he is an asshole! So you're forgiven. :o)
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:21pm [+]

An OK asshole though ;oP
by xxxxxxxx on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:21pm [+]

"i know I said Afganistan..so shoot me damnit."

no, you said iraq.

"O and the new U.S. helmets do not "stick out over the eyes" they look exactly like that."

no, the canadian helmet is rounder, while the american one has a little ridge over the eyes, kind of like a visor.

"The "c7a1" is not a canadian design."

it's borrowed the same way as marpat is borrowed. but the SAS tested them, and it poutperformed both their rifle and the m16. also, american weapons arre designed not to use full auto, because american troops are badly trained and will waste ammunition.
by neothe1 on Sun Jun 25, 06 6:37pm [+]

Neothe1 shut the hell up. American soldiers are trained badly? Thats probably why weve never won a war huh. oh wait. I dare your little punk ass to say that to a marine. And the United States has switched over to the M4 which is a smaller version of the m16 and is fully auto. So before you Canadians run your mouth please get the facts. The United States sells military equipment to countries worldwide thats how we make the big money.
by US_MarineCorp69 on Thu Aug 03, 06 10:25pm [+]

The Canadians may have coppied our uniforms but dont worry there probably not even bullet proof. And they still cant afford bullet proof hummers and abrahm tanks. They probably ride around in jeeps.
by US_MarineCorp69 on Thu Aug 03, 06 10:27pm [+]

What exactly is the point of this ballot?? It just looks like an American point-scoring exercise, trying to assert one's 'supposed' superiority over another nation. How sad.

The ballot maker is supposedly a Christian so I ask, where is the humility?

He also tends to make many boastful comments about how great America is - from what I've seen of his comments anyway.

Voted : There is much difference
Know I don't Know about any of you but I was a Canadian soldier. I'm very glad to see that we are finally getting American equipment, it makes much more sense, especially if we are in the same theater of operations, parts and ammo are easier toget. The C7 is a spin-off of the M16 made in Canada under contract by Colt.I have worked with alot of troops from around the world and I tell you, if I had to pick troops to fight with, I'd have an American on my right and a Brit on my left because they are the best soldiers in the world. I would say that Canadian troop are not better train than American troops but have more training in different fields of the military. Our small numbers (20,000 in the army)makes it nessisary for us to be cross trained in more jobs than a U.S. soldier. Hope I shed a little bit of light on this subject for you.

Im not sure it comes down to cost. I mean look at the British pound. Its the strongest currency in the world. i mean if i had £20 that'd be worth anywhere between about 35 and 45 dollars, so we have an easily strong enough budget to buy US gear but the thing is we develop our own. I think some countries develop their own...i.e the US, UK, Russia, China etc and some choose to go for buying currently made dsigns and renaming them or adapting them. In this case the Canadian Diemaco C8. In fact our SAS and SBS actually use the Diemaco C8 as does the unit im with in alot of cases.
by Brit_Airborne on Tue Nov 20, 07 6:47am [+]

Having used the M-4 a couple of times recently in Helmand i opted out of using it as even with the highest cleaning standards we were still getting jams and stoppages at innapropriate times so switched to Dimaco C8 and our own SA-80 A2. Another weapon that found favour over the M-4 Was teh German H&K G-36 which performed superbly in firefights. It has to be the best Assault rifle out there right now bar none.
by Brit_Airborne on Tue Nov 20, 07 6:54am [+]

Give me the M-4 in the jungle environment though any day.
