WHY DOES EVERYONE NOT FROM TEXAS HATE TEXAS?

[+] ballot by Chris13
created Tue Jun 27, 06

I'm from Texas and I love the state and love being from Texas. It seems though that everyone I meet that is NOT from Texas, have a grudge against the state. I just want to know why...

Because TX is good in sports
They have too much TX spirit
Dallas Cowboys, enough said
It's too hot
The state is too big
I actually like TX
A few arrogant Texans spoil it for everyone
jealousy?
I don't mind Texas
Nothing in Texas except Steers & Queers
Damn Chiggers
Because Texas sucks - heat, rednecks, weird bugs, tumbleweeds, Crawford, Minutemen, need to be bigge

COMMENTS:
I'll admit that hearing a few arrogant people who confuse Loud Boasting with Pride tend to turn me off to whatever region they are gloating about as Best in the Universe.

too much religion with too little sprituality!

Texas throws up the worst kind of americans. Brash arrogant loud and impotent. its a heady mixture.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 8:42am [+]

I grew up in the heart of Massachusetts liberalism. I now live in Texas and have been here for 7 years. Texans are some of the nicest people you'll meet. I love Austin and have no desire to move back to Ma. I"d be willing to bet that people who make broad sweeping generalizations of Texas have never set foot in this state. You can find loud, arrogant, my state, my country is the best in the world anywhere. It's not limited to the US.
by mindy on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:06am [+]

^ I think you will find it is.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:08am [+]

I don't have a problem with Texas, I used to go there a lot on vacations. Yeah all places have arrogant loud people anyplace on the planet and it's arrogant to believe otherwise. IMO
by oh_what_a_relief on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:16am [+]

A lot of it could be the Bush factor as to why some people seem to hate it.
by oh_what_a_relief on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:18am [+]

Its certainly not limited to America Mindy, of that you can be certain. Having traveled quite extensively, you find that sort of hyper-patriotism in all lands. Just look at what the World Cup has shown the world. In America we do tend to have, not more patriotism, but more visual and vocal displays. England matches us for that, believe me.

As for Texas, I would dare say that some on here commenting have never been to the state and most probably, have not met many people from Texas. Its called "talking out of your arse."
by TomSmith on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:23am [+]

There are a whole lot of good folks in Texas. Just like anywhere, a few rotten eggs give the rest a bad name.
by _Beelzebubba on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:38am [+]

Me, too, Chris13. We live in the greatest state in the USA. You will see a lot of Texas-bashing on this site.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 9:45am [+]

^ kind of observer to prove my point, dont you think?
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 10:35am [+]

I don't think it did. Could the same be said for the English Footbal fans who were carrying on that England was the greatest country in the world? Could we say the same for Germany? Italy? Or any other supposedly non-patriotic displaying countries we all watched during the World Cup?
by TomSmith on Tue Jun 27, 06 10:59am [+]

^ yes it could. but they were drunk.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 11:12am [+]

Many Texans announce that they are from Texas as if we should all get up and salute. It's like someone announcing they are HIV positive and waiting for the applause.

Texans believe that living in Texas is a good thing. This tells you everything you need to know about their sanity. @:>)
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 11:28am [+]

I'm a native New Yorker, transplanted many years ago to the Houston area. I can tell you tht most people from the northeast (blue state territory) think Texans are a bunch of dumb redneck cowboys. They mistake politeness and being slow to anger, a weakness. Let's not forget that Texas was a country before I was a state and as a former republic, Texas will always have the option to proclaim independence from the U.S.A. Therefore Texans are the only residents in the country that enjoy the liberty, freedom and power to choose their allegence. If push came to shove, I would choose the "Republic of Texas"
by remote_observer on Tue Jun 27, 06 11:40am [+]

Convenient to always be able to explain it away, or at least attempt to. So they were all drunk? Every single fan? I've been to Europe many times and believe me, they were not all drunk. Unless of course you're saying that Europeans, particularly the English, have a severe alcohol problem?

Sorry, not buying it.
by TomSmith on Tue Jun 27, 06 11:42am [+]

Ok, fair enough. but it doesn't change the fact that most people dislike texans for this very reason. Although certainly there is a case in europe for disliking English people. But thankfully the USA is doing its best to replace us.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 11:55am [+]

Most B&W dislike mobsie666, but are civil about it.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 12:16pm [+]

I don't know why some people hate Texas. Some of it probably has to do with George W. Bush, but people forget that Texas also gave us LBJ who certainly was a liberal in every sense of the word.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Tue Jun 27, 06 12:20pm [+]

Yes Observer, whatever you say observer. Like the civil little messages that your going to deny that you private me with. As if I care what anyone who converses with you thinks of me. Get a grip of yourself woman.
by xxxxxxxx on Tue Jun 27, 06 12:42pm [+]

Yeah, LBJ was real liberal at sending kids off to die for no good reason.

Kind of reminds you of somebody._Beelzebubba_Dubya

No knock on Texas. Pennsylvanis has... umm... Philadelphia?
by _Beelzebubba on Tue Jun 27, 06 2:23pm [+]

I don't hate Texas. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that people look at Texas as the #1 representative of the South and conservatism, and therefore impose all of their prejudices and stereotypes upon it. (Sure, there is a kernel of truth to those stereotypes.) Also, W's from Texas.

I've seen a certain amount of that with regards to California, where I live -- particularly the San Francisco bay area. San Francisco is regarded--probably fairly accurately--as the epicenter of liberalism.
by Applerod on Tue Jun 27, 06 2:48pm [+]

It's not just that a few arrogant Texans spoil it for everyone, it's that there are some who actually let that arrogant few influence the way they think.

And like Applerod said above. ^
by Grumpy_Person on Tue Jun 27, 06 3:51pm [+]

Voted : I actually like TX
Texas was also home of President LBJ and home of rockandroller Buddy Holly.
