Not yet. Rome has to defeat Persia first.
We're not on the upswing for any time in the forseeable future...
No I don't think things are as bad as some people make it out to be.We are not in decline we are just going through some dark days.America was closer to collaspe during the depression yet some how some way we pulled through that so I have no doubt that things will get better. The experiment in freedom has not failed we are still a world super power and we still have the strongest economy in the world.
while not quite "there yet", we are closer to the "slippery slope" but there is time to re-adjust our direction before we reach the "point of no return".

No, well unless you start using lead pipes in your water system. The Roman empire lasted 100's of years whereas the US has only been a major world power for less than 100 years, I think the only real problem with the US right now is poor fiscal management and even still the US has an elephant of an economy.

We are definitely in decline and the effects of the systemic pillaging that has undermined our economy and institutions has yet to be fully felt. However, an unwarrented war, massive corruptiona nd war profiteering, the hubris of attempted Empire (Pax Americana), a burdgeoning deficit, the selling off of jobs in order to make a short- term buck, and the undermining of the Middle Class will all have significant repercussions that will be fully appreciated only by future generations.
The parallels are scary. The total corruption of our government and the rich class, to me, is the watershed signal of our decline. If the people who are supposed to lead the nation have, essentially, divorced themselves from their responsibilities and from the people they rule, then the U.S. is headed for third world status...in a hurry.
