COMMENTS:
I am getting a bit tired of American movies. Only because I'm starting to see a lot of them as being very predictable. I could predict a whole movie for many by just watching a preview.
But still, there are some American movies that are just very very very good.
So many are made so you are more likely to find some you like . That's just my thoughts as to the reason.
They generally have a theme of optimism running throughout. Even the "horror" films generally have some form of happy ending, and a positive moral to be taken away by the viewer. Many perpetuate the idea of the "American dream", "land of opportunity" idea, which is a universally inspirational one, whether its JUST a dream or is reality.
Bollywood churns out more movies than Hollywood, although everyone features song and dance routines.
I'm still working on why they're so popular with *Americans*.
because "their own" movies are crap?
lil_ape - That is true. Whenever I watch an Asian or European movie, there isn't the same positive atmosphere. In fact the themes are much darker, the characters are not even necessarily intended to be likeable, and the endings are usually more pessimistic.
dazzle- No, there are many good movies from other countries. Hollywood sometimes has a habit of remaking them.
Steelhamster- lol, no, not all Indian movies are musicals with dance routines. It is true there are a lot. BUt I ahve seen quite a few that touched on very serious themes- such as oppression of women.
That MUST be it.
