COMMENTS:
Usually, I am flexible enough to 'honour teh position, if not the man,' and I don't have to agree with someone to be pleasant. However, Bush has crossed thresholds -- it is not amatter of disagreement, it is a matter of his being destructive and, at heart, anti-American (when you look at his actions vs his words). He is not conservative. He is not liberal. He is just bad for the country in almost every sense.
I probably would do that
I would check to see if my watch was still there...
In the world I come from, you're supposed to respect a fellow human being, even one whose beliefs and values are diametrically opposed to your own. By and large, I've lived my life to those standards. In this case, however, I face an impasse that no man could breach. Turn and walk away, I would.
Steel, while you were checking for your watch, the new Tresury Secretary got your wallet...
I agree with Cathexis--Bush crossed the line. That being said I'd enthusiastically shake hands with him--bad form to do otherwise. However, I hope the next World Series or Super Bowl Mvp tells him to "go to hell." (Bush loves to call after the World Series and Super Bowl. He thinks he's a baseball man because he completely f'd up the Rangers. He always calls the Super Bowl MVP because he was a cheerleader at Yale--and you know what they say about football players and cheerleaders...
...then I'd bite it.
Could I put on some rubber gloves first (no telling where that hand has been).
im not fake

It is a very rare thing for a person to actually meet a president and get to shake their hand. I was fortunate enough to do so with Bill Clinton. While I don't agree with Bush's policies, I would certainly take it as an honor to meet the man who is president.
He has deeply offended me with his bold negligent demeanor and incompetent actions due to his mammoth inexperience... respect for him, with this position, must be earned, it does not come inherently or with titles... I couldn't ever imagine being in the same room with him let alone within arms reach!

I would with any president even Mr. Clinton Who I think is why people stopped respecting the office(imo). The sad thing that has happened in our day and age is we put the man over the office. It is the office that deserves the Respect even if you cannot stand the man. I was taught that growing up. But I think a lot of people do not know how to respect anything or anybody anymore. All anybody can do is knockdown ridicule make fun of and very seldom can they give constructive criticism There are a lot of peoples’ hands I would shake just to be respectful of their position even if I do not agree with how they are acting even if they were being disrespectful to me.
^ I agree somewhat. I'd shake hands with him because he's offering his hand. Not because he's president and not because of what he did or didnt do in office. I'd do the same with anyone. If I had a bone to pick with them, I'd wait till after the handshake to let them know what's on my mind.
^ Like Hitler, Saddam, Kim Jong, Ken Lay... they all have/had impressive positions... wanna shake their hands? The shake of a hand usually comes with a smile and a nod, most likely meaning approval...

Wha? I dont know where you're from, but where I live it's simply a customary greeting. We dont read too much into a simple handshake. Like I said, the nitty gritty comes afterwards. Even the duels to the death of old were always preceded by handshakes (or the cultural equivalent).
I wouldn't turn away, I'd have to just look at him. And No Way would I let him touch my hand.

I would just shake his hand. It would give me a chance to get close tell him a few things I didnt like about his actions. Why act like a irrational, ignore him when your given a rare chance to tell him a few stuff like how badly he been handling things directly to his face. He would be force to grin and bear it since im allow to have my own opinion and share it with him.
What is the problem with Bush I think he was done a splended job of running the shit hole you call a country he is a good man.
