RELIGION AS A REQUIREMENT ON IDENTITY CARDS?

[+] serious ballot by Socrates
ACTIVE Wed Jul 05, 06 - Sun May 09, 10

Currently, Indonesia requires that all citizens state their religion on their national identity cards.

There are four options: Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, or Buddhism. One of the four must be picked.

Some argue that wanting know one's religion is in order to keep track of minority groups and to discriminate. The Indonesian government denies this.

What do you think? Should religion be removed as a requirement on Indonesian identity cards?

Yes, it is prejudiced
No, it is a brilliant idea and would be useful for the state to know, other countries should copy
Yes, it is irrelevent

It is also strange that the Indonesian government left out Taoism and Judaism, as there are significant populations of such there. Probably because there is a strong anti-semitic element to this Islamic country, and secondly Taoism is the religion of mostly the ethnic Chinese, whom the Indonesian government is mostly racist toward.

Makes it easier for them to round up people doesn't it?

Why? No one asks me that when I go for a driver's licence. I guess I've found one *more* good reason for being glad I'm American, even if the sensation of security will be short-lived.
