DO YOU THINK RICH REPUBLICANS ONLY PRETEND TO SHARE THE VALUES OF COMMON PEOPLE?

I have no doubt even for a second that this is the case, because a rich man is not treated the same way by our court system as a poor man. Bush can claim to be hard on criminals but if he was caught tomorrow driving drunk with enough cocaine in his car to constitute “intent to distribute” not only would he be given a slap on the wrist but you would never even hear the term “mandatory minimum sentence” mentioned at his trial or on the news. He can claim to be pro-life but if he managed to get Roe vs. Wade turned over and one of his daughters was raped tomorrow she would get the best illegal abortion money could buy (I’d even wager that it would be considerably cleaner than most legal ones are today).
Do you think rich republicans only pretend to share the values of common people?

Yes
No
Sometimes.
Most of the time.

IMO, most don't even pretend ... but they aren't politicians or dependent on the acceptance of the serfs.

Rich Democrats don't pretend.

No one in their right mind can imagine that the values of the poor are shared by the rich. If you take a very quick glance at the ostensive source book for American values, the Bible, you find Jesus condemning the rich -- and hanging out with outcasts. Do we believe that Christ would approve of wealth accumulated on the backs of the poor? Can we picture Christ pulling the switch on some condemned wretch? And on and on.

These folks are so cynical that they consciously use the moral values of the poor and middle class (abortion) to get elected and then adopt policies that screw these people with no conscience whatsoever.

Sick birds.

America's rich conservatives have ceased to see themselves as Americans, really, except when it comes to PR time. They actually have more in common with the rich in other countries than they do with the average citizens of the U.S.
by cranky on Fri Jul 07, 06 2:45pm [+]

I could say the same thing about Democrats afterall the DNC is always particapting in class warfare and crying about how the middle class is being attacked. The Dems claim that tax breaks to Americans who actually pay taxes hurts the middle class when in reality those tax cut went to the middle class.

I think on some level yes. Are they against murder? etc.

I don't think that hypocrisy is limited to one party. The term "limousine liberal" was coined back in the 60s to refer to those liberals who claimed to be for the poor but got shuffled around in limos and lived the wealthy life.

Where is it written that someone who is 'liberal' has to wear sack cloth and ashes.... which gives me an idea for a ballot...
by Steelhamster on Fri Jul 07, 06 7:01pm [+]

So, according to Fiddle's logic, if you have money, then if you don't engage in class warfare against the non-rich, you are a hypocrite.
by cranky on Sat Jul 08, 06 5:29am [+]

^^^^Corrupt: I couldn't agree more! Democrats and Republicans are just different names for the same beast. It's a shell game, and we need to wake up! These two groups each select one candidate for us to get excited about. It's analogous to a choice between Shell and Mobil.

It is virtually impossible for a person to run for office who is not stamped with approval from one group of rich or another.
by xxxxxxxx on Sat Jul 08, 06 1:14pm [+]

No, cranky. What I said is that hypocrisy isn't limited to one party. Your reaction and that of steelhamster are of the knee-jerk variety.
