SHOULD IT BE EASIER TO FIRE THE PRESIDENT?

[+] ballot by Applerod
ACTIVE Sun Jul 09, 06 - Thu Jul 03, 08

As far as I'm concerned, the President is supposed to be working for the American people. An election is similar to a hiring. The President is hired in the good faith that he will perform his job to the best of his ability. There should be something akin to an annual review of his job performance. If his job performance should fall beneath an acceptable level, then those who elected or hired him in the 'business of politics' will decide if he should stay on or be let go.

The President should never be made more powerful than the American people. We are not his subjects; we are his collective employer, if you will. Obviously that's a mountain of bureaucratic red tape to cut, but isn't that really the heart of democracy -- the CONSENT of the governed? Has the notion of firing the President become so foreign that it is seen as an impossibility?

Yes, it should be made easier to remove the President from office
No, it is easy enough to remove the President from office as it is

COMMENTS:
Did you know that president Clinton was impeached by congress but the senate failed to ratify jis impeachment by a mere 5 votes? Clinton was a very popular president on the left and in the media, he was also popular on the world stage, and yet he was very nearly impeached.

The president is not in a popularity

The president is not in a popularity contest. He has to do something impeachable to be removed from office.

Beware...If you impeach Bush, you get Cheney. He is much more conservative and popular than Bush.

Hold general elections in this scenario, like they do in England.

I believe the mechanism would be fine -- if it could overcome Party cronyism.

If W was a Demiocrat, he'd have been impeached years ago.

If the US Congress valued country over party, W would have been impeached years ago.

A parlimentary system has a lot of appeal these days to this American. It would be great if the Chimpster could be forced into holding a general election.

Also, it would be great if the president had question and answer time in front of the Congress, like the PM does in Britain. I'd love to see ol' stumblebum trying to lie his way through a few of those sessions. If he needs antidepressants and other psychiatric meds now, just think what shape he'd be in after actually being held accountable in public.

Voted : Yes, it should be made easier to remove the President from office
In some countries, they take a vote of confidence in the Leader.

If there is a vote of NO confidence in him, the leader is required to step down and a new government is formed.
