behind the current conflict in Lebanon?

Israel (and the US) want an excuse to destroy Hezbollah to weaken Iran before it gains nuclear force
Iran and Syria, sensing the overextension of the US in Iraq, seek to attack Israel's vulnerabilities
Iran and Hezbollah want to provoke Israel into a major war to distract from Iran's nuclear ambitions
All of the above
None of the above
Muslim's perpetual hate of Jews due to Quranic teaching

COMMENTS:
It is obvious. The G8 spent most of their time talking about the Israel/Hezbollah mess and very little about Iran. Also, Iran has threatened in the past to do this very thing. Iran started Hezbollah BTW and has funded it heavily. It seems some of you miss the FACT that Hezbollah started the conflict, NOT Israel.

The first option makes no sense. Destroying Hezbollah in Lebanon has no effect on Iran. Hezbollah is only a willing proxy. Iran isn't losing any soldiers or military capability in this.

To believe Israel didn't start the conflict, suggests that it is an impassive country and that it treats all of its citizens equally.

Hezbellah are just the manifestation of decades of repression on the Palestinians and others it feels are a theat.

They count on the US to back them through every atrocity, but if an Islamic natin or group acted as Isreal do, how would the west report it.

As I am an anti-semitic (sic) it is obvious why I call for restraint by a vastly superior war machine.

The same reason I ask all warmongers to desist, the majority who die aren't soldiers but civilians, many women and children.

It should be obvious to all.
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Jul 19, 06 11:50am [+]

It does treat its citizens equally steelhamster. Your comment shows just how little you really know about Israel. Israeli Arabs in Israel can and do vote and hold office. A supreme court justice is Arab. Freedom of religion truly exists as does the ability to proselytize. Freedom of speech exists for all citizens. The only difference between Arabs and Jews in Israelis is that Arabs aren't required to serve in the military. These rights aren't even provided to Arabs in the surrounding Arab countries.

The palestinians have been repeatedly offered their own state, but they refuse. They had this opportunity starting in 1948. It is apparently more important to them to destroy Israel than it is to have their own country. Still, Israel persists in being willing to negotiate.

So, steel... tell me how Israel should deal with Hezbollah. I'm curious as you seem to make excuses for terrorism perpetrated by them.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Wed Jul 19, 06 1:24pm [+]

I think Hezbollah should go the way of all terrorist orgnisations, to the wall.

I don't believe I advocated any other course of action.

As for you equal in Israel point, I really did not believe you to be so naive.

Or are the prisons in Israel not filled with Palestinian dissidents and are they not being systematically tortured as the US looks on?

You see, I try to see a balance, whereas you seem quite content to swallow any Pro-Israeli story that is put out.

Incidently, Israel offering the Palestinain their ownstate is egregious, it was their country in the first place, why should they agree to share it with a foriegn power?

Would any country allow it, would they not set up a resistance?

I can hardly see citizens of the USA, agree to 'share their country' with a foriegn invader.

IMO, it's a ploy to give the U.S. ingress into Iran.
by Truthseeker013 on Wed Jul 19, 06 3:59pm [+]

Iran is using there shock troops in Hezbollah to distract the world from their nuclear ambitions. You think it was just mere chance that Hezbollah captured those soldiers three days before the G8 summit?
