culture : WHAT SHOULD THE AGE OF CONSENT BE (IF ANY)?

In many nations there is no Age of Consent. In nations where there is an official Age of Consent, it can vary greatly (I've seen upto 25, and lower than 10). It seems to me that sexual maturity varies in both physical and mental ways from country to country, but if there was a worldwide Age of Consent, what should it be?

people should be liscenced on an individual basis based on strict standards. that goes for many things. driving, drinking, sex, piloting, using a computer, using a firearm, using any complex tool or vehicle, or really, doing anything. age limits just don't work, there is no correlation between maturity and age. maturity is based on experiences, age is just the time in which experiences may or may not happen.

I agree that tests for maturity would be nice, but who decides the criteria?

Are you saying that we should have even more government control on our lives, and that people should be forced to apply for licenses to have sex? Why should we require government permission for our sex lives? Next they'll be taxing it.

I believe it should be a case of asking at what age are a couple mutually mature enough to consent to an act that may land them in big trouble nine months down the road or earlier if they are faced with horror of choosing to abort the child's life and future in the sanctity of the womb.

What does dressing 16 and 17-year-old young Japanese women (who aren't real) have to do with "sexualization" of REAL Western minors under 18? That's NOT grounds for a "moral" backlash! Try PSYCHOTIC!
