COMMENTS:
Of course. I don't know why some British think otherwise. We are able to distinguish between Hollywood movies and REAL history you know :) I mean in school, they don't teach us from a book based on some Hollywood screenplay. The answer is yes, yes, yes! :) On the other hand, do the British recognize the role we played? How do you think we feel when certain people, some on here, say "Oh, we were winning without you," or "You did very little to help us," or, "You got in at the last minute when we had done most of the hard work." It works both ways. But as for your ballot, as I said, of course we do.
All Americans I know do.
Ditto patch.
Thats the sort of comment i expected from you Patch, thanks. I recognize the role the US played in the war and a great help you were though some times i don't like to admit it or even deny it.
I didn't mean it as a rude comment. I meant it to reassure you that most Americans, if not a vast majority, know that the British stood on their own for a long time during WWII. There wasn't anything bad meant.
I know mate :) i'm saying thanks 'cos it's nice to know people respect what we did. I wasn't being rude:)
:) Oh good. I thought you thought I was being rude. Lol! Thanks!!
Absolutely. You'd have to be a total tool not to recognize it.
We love the British in America. Never doubt that. Britian pretty much went it alone against Germany before Hitler's blunder into the Soviet Union. The Brits have historically produced some of the finest soldiers in the world, although it has been widely observed that they have been poorly led -- mostly because of their bad habit of promoting royalty and "connected" folk to leadership positions. A costly practice. Also, we should note here that one of the reasons Hitler failed to pursue Britain at the beginning of the war was his thought that the British were Aryans and would ultimately join him. By the time he'd figured out that this wasn't going to be the case, he'd lost most of the opportunity. Still, as to your ballot question, Britain played a crucial role in WWI, WWII, and Korea. Great fighting men.
I do. I usually hear the "we saved your asses" shit in reference to the French, and I think that it is undeniably true. The fact is that if it weren't for the US and, belatedly, the USSR England didn't have a chance.
Never heard of the Royal Navy then?

All of us who aren't twits realize this.
Good show!
As FF said, most Americans I know know this, but those who drooled over "Band of Brothers" might not agree.
"although it has been widely observed that they have been poorly led -- mostly because of their bad habit of promoting royalty and "connected" folk to leadership positions. A costly practice." That was very true unfortunatly. I do consider the US having better leaders when it comes to warfare, then and now.
Actually I don't suscribe to the we saved your asses messages. It is a weak and worthless statemnet at any level. but England couldn't have won the war, navy or not, without the Russians and the Americans, and to a lesser extent the Canadians and NZers, and Aussies. Fact.
The Americans couldn't have won the war by themselves, the russians couldn't have won the war by themselves. So what? Britain stand in 1940 saved Western Civilization. Fact.
Also, i'd like to point out that if the Germans had carried out operation sealion the indications are, according to the top brass of both sides who analysed the scenario in the 70's at Sandhurst, that the Germans would have had their arses kicked after 3 days.
We really did need the Russians more than the US i think, the Canadians, aussies and NZ's belonged to us anyway.
There are some incredibly ignorant people on this thread.
Like who?
^^yes indeed, who are the ignorant ones? If you want to have a discussion about any WW II topics I'd be happy to oblige, or indeed on many hiostorical subjects. I asure you that I am more than qualified. I didn't recieve my education by watching U571 or Saving Private Ryan.
^Like wise, im with you on this on Chomsky. Come on who is being ignorant?
welllllllllllllllll if it wasnt for us u'd be speaking german----and yes we could of still won the war without u it just wulda been a lot harder because u did save r asses in the battle of the bulge
YEAAAHHH WELL WHO WON THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR- USA! USA! YEAHHHHHH!!!!!
^ Now that's Ignorant lol.
