IS ROCK&ROLL OFFICIALLY OVER?

[+] ballot by Gizzmo
created Thu Jul 27, 06

I mean, lately it seems the music world has forgotten the most important roots of music altogether...You know, the classic oldies but goodies bands that helped music progress...Now, it's either overwhelmingly crappy pop or rap s**t that doesn't even take real talent to create. Nowadays, there are few, if any talented musicians around worth listening to who are mainstream.....Back then if you wanted to be famous, you needed serious talent(Led Zepellin)...But, now all you need is a fricken recording studio and you're it!(Paris effing Hilton!!)

Not only that, but it seems that attitude isn't even present anymore..It used to be: "Go to a rock concert and get totally crazy and still enjoy the show because the band is amazing to see!!!" NOW, it's just like: "Oh, I'm gonna see this person just 'cause they're here!" It seems like everything in rock and roll has been done by the way they're acting(which I don't beleive!!)

One more thing that I'm concerned about: Old Rock musicians selling out their music to product companies for money...You all recall Led Zepellin having their song "Rock and Roll" being used in the cadillac commercials and countless other classic musicians using their songs for advertisements..And, recently, I just about wept when I saw the "Dancing with the Stars" commercial recently on ABC when they used AC/DC's "You shook me all night long" It's quite a shame...The only Classic Rock band I can think of that didn't sell out is Pink Floyd....

So, these issues beg the question:"Is Rock and Roll Officially Over?"

What do you think?

Yes, it's over because everything in rock has been done
Yes, because music today has forgotten its true roots
No, because everything in Rock hasn't been all done before
No, it's just not appreciated as it used to be
No, Music like that is no longer mainstream
Nirvana killed it

COMMENTS:
Classic Rock is so unappreciated today, espicially by my generation and age group...Sometimes I feel like I'm in the wrong time...Like I've totally missed my real generation...the age of Rock and Roll and what-not....That's what really disappoints me....

Good ol' ass-kicking rock-n-roll is still out there. It's just not served up in steaming piles by the music industry unlike hip-hop and boy bands.

If music needs to be advertised, it's most likely utter shit.

I agree...It's never really been mainstream, even thought the artists were putting such passion and seriousness in their music, and nowadays pure talent seems like just a plus in the "music" business...The glory of fame to man can really bring downfall and lack of meaning to what was originally intended. Sometimes it sucks to be human.

The spirit of rock n roll died with Kurt Cobain. Nirvana was rocks last gasp. It's been all downhill since then.

Now is just the new Muzak in TV commericals and movies, and radioplay is declining.

It's going the way of Frank Sinatra and big band music. Outta Here!
