saying rude things or driving like a lunatic?

I'm not excusing Mel Gibson for making drunken anti-Semitic remarks. But despite the furor over his anti-Semitic statements, virtually no one has expressed outrage about him driving 87 miles per hour in 45 mile per hour zone while being drunk. He was driving almost twice the legal speed limit. He could have crashed into other vehicles, run down pedestrians, or driven into a building with people in it.

Is making drunken, anti-Semitic remarks really much worse than driving like a lunatic while drunk?

What do you think?

Making anti-Semitic remarks is worse
Driving recklessly, while drunk, is worse

Actually, I've seen lots of press about his drunken actions. He is still a faithful husband and good father. He did apologize. I am betting it won't happen again.

He'll probably just make another religious movie to get everyone to forget.

And you will probably buy another ticket to the ballgame to watch millionaires hit a little ball.

Given his influence and importance in the entertainment world, his remarks are more shocking and newsworthy than his speeding and drunken driving. Lots of celebrities have driven drunk. The actual act of speeding while drunk was potentially life threatening to others and himself though.

Alcohol doesn't make you say things that you don't actually believe. It just lowers your inhibitions to state your deepest, darkest secret beliefs. That said, driving drunk and recklessly is definitely worse than making anti-semitic statements
