WHAT DO YOU THINK OF A RIGHTWINGER WHO SUPPORTS GAY RIGHTS?

[+] serious ballot by cranky
ACTIVE Wed Aug 02, 06 - Mon Apr 27, 09

I know a guy who is as rightwing as they come. He defends Bush on everything, despises blacks (took pleasure in what happened to the people in New Orleans), hates Muslims and Arabs (to an obsessive level), is hostile to women, derides Europe, mocks liberals, and thinks that the Democratic Party should be destroyed. In short, he hates anyone who isn't a white, American, Republican male.

Surprisingly, he supports gay rights and gay marriage. ???? It's a mystery.

He's in his mid-20's. He's not married, and has never had a serious, long-term relationship (as far as I know). Other than that, I don't know anything about his personal life.

What do you think of a guy like that?

He's rightwing...and gay
He's just a rightwinger, who supports gay rights
Who can say?
100% pure fruit!
What would I think of left wingers that don't?
Makes you wonder

Maybe he has one area of his perception that has not yet been poisoned?

Maybe he's just a really nice and sincere guy who gets a bum rap? Maybe he's more open minded and compassionate than people give him credit for. I think he is at least :)

Voted : Who can say?
But...it may be that he, or someone close to him, is gay. Yep, have to say that might be the case.

Voted : 100% pure fruit!
he should just come out the closet.

Is your friend named Tom Cruise?

Hmmm. I don't know if he's a scientologist, or not.

So what is your point? I know plenty of Republican supporters of gay rights. I don't sit there and wonder if they might be gay. Who gives a rat's ass anyways? Well, apparently you do.

So, is this the best thinly disguised attack ballot about herzog with some of your homophobia seeping through ballot you can make?

There ARE plenty of decent people who oppose Europe's recent record of appeasement to terrorists, who think that the US is a positive force in the world and should be very assertive in trying to make things right, who think that Muslims should not be given an extra break because they are Muslim, who think they should integrate into society, who think that all people should be equally responsible for themselves with no handouts or set-asides, who mock leftists (liberals in the FDR, JFK, LBJ mode rarely exist anymore) (leftist being what you are cranky). Actually, those stances on the issues ARE what liberals used to stand for.

The rest is just your prejudicial judgments about this "hypothetical" person.

Maybe you should look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why this bothers you so much?
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Wed Aug 02, 06 2:12pm [+]

Why would you think all "rightwingers" don't support rights for all? Do you not know that some "gays" are *gasp* Republicans? Do you not know that some liberals/left-wingers/Democrats (take your pick) are pro-life, etc?
by xxxxxxxx on Wed Aug 02, 06 2:27pm [+]

^"I know plenty of Republican supporters of gay rights."

No, you don't. There aren't plenty of Republican supporters of gay rights. There has been serious zero debate in the Republican Party about the Gay Marriage Hate Amendment. In fact, conservative politicians have been falling all over themselves to support this addition of hate to our Constitution.

"Maybe you should look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why this bothers you so much?"

Maybe YOU should look in the mirror. After all, you are the one having the hissy and engaging in all kinds of irrelevant histrionics.

Fiddle, what would you know about being a liberal. You're a Kool-Aid Conservative, even if you won't admit it.

I support gay rights and I'm pretty rightwing cranky.I think most non-religious rightwingers would support gay rights because they realize that the government has no place telling two adults that they can't get married. It's you liberals not us rightwingers who want more government in the individuals life.
by Corrupt on Wed Aug 02, 06 2:34pm [+]

There are right-winging that support gay rights just as there are left wingers that don't.

I know quite a few liberals that hate gay people. Bigotry knows no political affiliation.
by TomSmith on Wed Aug 02, 06 4:28pm [+]

I am probably what you would call a right winger and I support gay rights, like marriage, benefits for partners. Things like that.

Now you know two.

And I don't care if that means you little mean spirited people question my sexuality.
by Noblese_Oblige on Wed Aug 02, 06 5:24pm [+]

someone pointed out that the word "fruit" was derogatory. I didn't know, I said it in jest, and if anybody was insulted, please accept my deepest apologies.
by LCD on Wed Aug 02, 06 5:29pm [+]

I know several republicans who support gay marriage. One of the most devout republicans I know is even gay himself and active in politics. From his perspective, he likes what the republican party stands for. But at the same time, he will work with that party from within to try and effect change that he (and many others within the party) feels is for the better.
by Grumpy_Person on Thu Aug 03, 06 3:49am [+]

I don't see the big issue here. Not everyone has to support every single doctrine of something. One's political views may not even fit in the left/right dichotomy at all. So?
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Aug 03, 06 9:09am [+]

LCD: if you had been drunk when you said "100% pure fruit!", you would have been telling you deepest feelings. And "come out of the closet"? Yes, offensive.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Aug 03, 06 9:50am [+]

cracky is a joke. His closet homophobia is well known by the gay users on this site.
