I don't hear anyone bitching about it in the winter time.

To a certain degree yes there has been a bit of alarmism in Global Warming discussion. There is no doubt in my mind that Global warming exists however I am not sure if man is causing it or if we can even stop it.
"Climate porn"?
Yes, but of course that seems to be acceptable these days. When gore openly admitted that he was exaggerating the threats of global warming in his film and in speeches many people cheered him for doing what was necessary to bring attention to this. Seems it's ok to lie so long as it's for the right cause. By the way, did you know that global warming has been shown to cause syphilis?
maybe it should be called "climate change" so you tots who have such a Problem with "global warming" and the whole "don't blame the 6.6 billion stinking apes" kick could start to think of it realistically. 20 years from now the most God-fearing, ego-MANiac fatties will still be denying we can have any affect on this planet.. and who cares anyway when we have Heaven to look forward to, right? :p God cares more about each one of you than he does about the pretty planet, so sleep well! I love that even considering the one environment is still a political issue, I trust it will never change!

Voted : Yes, too much alarmism
Yes. Clearly. A week and a half ago the temp was 112, then a week later it was 74. That is a drop of 38 degrees in one week. Taken in that way it is indicative of a catastrophic weather change. Then this week the temp has run 10-15 degrees F below the average temp for years past. Isn't that indicative that, at least in this area, we are moving very quickly into an ice age? I heard, that today, temps in Boston dropped more than 20 degrees F in a couple of hours. Oh no. The sky is falling.

perhaps - though i think that it is inevitable that given a controversial issue - extreme views will be presented - to get attention, to make a point. Unfortunately sometimes this detracts from the validity of an argument. If only we were all thinking people that could see through the hype and grasp the real issues at hand. Our weather patterns are changing, our use of fossil fuel is affecting that change, and can we really afford to continue on the course we are on? And what effective and realistic changes can we put into practice? We can and should look past the sensationalism and ask what is the core of truth that lies within this debate. But the older i get the more i recognize the complacent stupidity of my fellow humans (sorry folks......) and i wonder if there really is any hope for the future. So then maybe neurosis is a blessing in disguise in that i also still believe that somehow, someway we will fumble through. Who's responsibility is it anyway - to evaluate the alarm - those that present it, or those that receive it? ok simply put - too much alarmism is detrimental - but as thinking humans - can we not recognize that without totally disregarding the cause behind the alarm?
we will not

Yes, because the change in temperature has never been proven to be anything more than a natural climate change. 1 degree over the last 10 years folks, that's it, 1 degree.

The fact is that Earth has had ice ages, and then subsequently warmed. All that happened before man was the predominate species on the planet. If "global warming" is occurring... there is simply not enough evidence to prove whether it's a natural occurance or not. The Earth is millions of years old, and man only has detailed weather/climate records that go back 200-300 years. Give or take a century or two.
What's "Natural" about 6.6 billions apes and their stinky metal cities replacing the forests with trash?

Jyl: what's natural about global warming following a period of global cooling? Well, everything actually, it's been happening in predictable cycles for as long as the earths been around. So why make it seem unnatural?
I asked what is natural about the affect 6.6 billion people are having, not about the weather fluctuations you'll cling to until you die :) lightreaper summed up this response and the reason so many people will never be able to face the truth.

Let's see what you have to say when you can't breathe the stuff. And, if it interests anyone, Pat Robertson is now in the alarmist camp. Scared yet, anyone?
I could understnad the cries of paranoid alarmist if we had more than one planet to live on.
The question isn't whether global warming exists and/or whether it effects the Earth's weather/climate. The real question should be: If global warming is occurring... are humans causing it? The answer to that question is simple. There simply isn't enough information available to determine whether humans are causing global warming. Accurate weather history only goes back approximately 200 years. The Earth is millions of years old. The Earth has gone through ice ages and subsequently warmed, and there were no humans causing the global warming then. The data isn't there.
(pasting that on every ballot about the climate has not made it true, it's just made it more pitiful and desperate)
